ARacer AF1 Install. Dead Battery.

I installed my ARacer RC Mini 5 and the BLink module a few months ago and haven't had any battery related issues. I finally got an exhaust system with an O2 sensor bung and so I finally installed the AF1. Two days after install, I went out to ride my Grom and the battery is dead. Apparently, wiring it straight to the battery as shown in Hard Racing's YouTube install video was not the right thing to do.

Can anyone confirm that wiring the AF1 straight to the battery will kill the battery even when the Grom is off? Also, if that is the case, then what is the proper solution so that I can leave the AF1 permanently wired in, but this doesn't happen again?

Thanks in advance for the help.
