In June I rode down to L.A. to hang with friends and then rode home:

Santa Monica to Las Vegas to Placerville to Benicia. 880 miles in 16 hours including an hour sitting in a hot tub resting.

I was thinking of doing an Iron Butt but instead just rode a fun path home. Could have done another 120 miles but it wouldn't have made the ride any more memorable.

Have fun on you IB. Be safe, and plan as much as you can.

Cheers

the Iron Butt association is a very exclusive motorbike club for riders who have done 1,000 miles in 24 hrs. and i believe there is a 36 or 48 hr ride as well.

document your mileage with fuel reciepts, mail it in and you get a cool sticker, shirt, and patch that says you made it!!! my uncle did it in the 90s. i'm trying to muster up the ass endurance to join myself! but on my super tenere, not a grom lol!!!

i've done an IB Saddle Sore(1000miles in 24hrs) ride before. It's very uncomfortable near the end. I would ride standing up for miles on end, side saddle, leaned forward with feet hooked over passenger pegs you name and I tried it, anything to change riding position. lmao

You'd have to AVERAGE 42-ish mph... Rolling refuelling rig with support car? But then you wouldn't get your receipts.. lol! Man, you'd have to eat while riding also probably...

It'd be fun to try though... prolly have to stock-up on aspirin... hahaha!

@ Bagger what did you ride for your IB trip?
I did it on my FJR so you'd think it wouldn't be that bad and the first half wasn't but the second half got pretty rough. My main problem was that I didn't stop nearly as much as I should have. I was doing full tank stints of about 350+ miles at time. Did about 1200 miles in 16hrs. Officially went from Toledo, Ohio (through the Tail of the Dragon) to Robbinsville, NC and back. A friend attempted it on a CBR600 :eek:and wasn't able to make it in the 24hrs. When he finally got back he said it was the most grueling and painful thing he has ever tried to endure but in the end he gave up on making it in the allotted time. I gave him credit though, I told him I thought he was nuts to even attempt it on a full on 600 sportbike.
