Motorcycles riding between cars! Calm down, the legal practice of lane splitting saves car drivers time and money by reducing overall congestion while allowing motorcycles to take charge of their own safety. Here's why everyone, including car drivers, should support legal lane splitting.

yeah I bet that can get pretty bad, there's also some places that have idling laws where a vehicle can't idle for more than a few minutes, they can under some circumstances though. so just being green...bikes should split lanes, over time it will probably make a big difference.

not legal in my area, but hardly ever the need for it really. obviously you see the squids blazing down the hwy splitting and acting idiots, but drivers here are not used to that happening to them and i would not trust them to hold their line long enough for me to do it

I did get into an accident while lane splitting during traffic going down on highway 101 in San Jose California. Traffic was moving slow and I was not much faster but a small white pickup truck decided it could change lane really fast to slide into what was just enough space for his truck. No signal and no warning. I was clearly in his mirror but he did not notice me. I grabbed the brakes and the front of the bike hit his rear bumper. My rear wheel lifted enough that I rolled into the box of the truck and bike fell on the asphalt. I was fine and had damage on my 600F4i because of all the fairing damage and muffler mostly. Since then I don't find lane splitting quite as safe as people like to claim. I see lots of bikers passing me and know very well that if anyone does what this guys did it will cost these riders dearly. I still do it at light when traffic is not moving or at slow speed when I know two cars are side by side. Basically I assume they can't seem me but they are either not moving or can see another car.

i love to lane split, and i believe it wouldnt be so bad if more people driving cars were used to seeing it but everyone always beeps at me, trys to hit me thinking im a jackass. but that being said i dont think it to be "safe" i mean theres right ways and wrong ways of doing things for sure but even doing it the right way has its dangers
