I know the Grom isn't supposed to be fast but here's the deal. The first 2 or 3 days I had it, I could hold 64-65mph with no problem at all. Since the 4th day it'll only hold 55-56mph. Any ideas?
Can't say. Most of us went the other way...bike was slower for the first few days...under 60, but got faster as it got broken in. Air pressure, chain tightness, valves are the 3 things I would check and I'd do an oil change.
It would be surprising to already have a pb with the valve, especially on this kind of engine which is reputed to be one of the most unbreakable and reliable.
There's log of parameters, if the bike is "cold" you drop some km/h, if there's wind, and i will go for the chain which has to be tightened every 2 weeks
do a compression check, remove spark plug and check compression, write down compression number, spray some oil in the cyclinder and do compression check again. If numbers are ok or the same than move on to the Fuel/air system since something got screwed up in there.
If you did any mods than go back to stock first to see if there is any change.
Since the season is changing there might be a change in the air density which could cause performance change.
That is why when I get my Grom I'm going to buy me a note book and document all the readings on the Grom before I ride it such as compression check, voltage output, shock sage, etc and I will ride it for a month and check and document the readings again just to see if there is any change.
When I start to mod the Grom such as counter sprocket going to 14T I will check the speed and gas mileage to see the changes, same thing when I replace the stock tires to Michelin.
My document information will be used to see if I see any changes in performance, mpg, handling, etc.
Even simpler problem can be incline and wind. Mine caps out at 51mph on parts of my commute and 61mph on others. The Grom is extremely sensitive to things like that. If you were topping out at 40mph I'd worry
i do know that when i first got mine, it was a turd and gradually got a bit quicker. lately i have been cruising right around 60 heading into work though which has been nice, had her cruising at 65 with a tailwind yesterday=]
Wow, these are slow speeds. You guys must be either big or not tucking cause mine has no trouble getting to 64 mph...level ground of course. It does slow down a little with hills and wind. If I don't tuck, 62 mph is tops.
I have had 75 on a long flat laying over the bars with a hill haha
But generally 60 is top and occasionally due to wind and road it will sit At 58
